When Manton Rotary was asked if they could assist in helping fund the cost of providing water and sewer to the new Manton Schools Wellness Center the Club eagerly jumped on board by pledging $1,000 towards this worthwhile venture. The Club then approached the Cadillac Rotary Club and Mercy Hospital for support and each donated $1,000.  To keep the ball rolling toward the clinic's $5,000 goal, Assistant Rotarian Governor Linda Kimbel doubled the Manton and Cadillac Rotary donations by writing and submitting a matching funds grant to Rotary International. When all was said and done, the clinic raised the $5,000 needed to complete this necessary project.

Manton Consolidated Schools Wellness Center Water Project

Manton Consolidated Schools has opened a Wellness Center that allows students to have access to basic health services as well as mental health counseling. Katy Bies, District Health Department #10, wrote a grant and received $100,000 from the Michigan Department of Community Health and the Michigan Department of Education to open the Manton clinic as well as one in Mesick. The center is staffed by a Health Department Nurse two days a week, and a Master’s level Licensed Professional Counselor one day per week.

Although the center was up and running, it lacked a very important element, water. The Wellness Center is housed in an unused high school classroom which did not have access to water or sewage in the room.

The Manton Rotary was approached for possible funding to help remedy this situation. The cost of providing water and sewer to the center was $5,000. The Manton Rotary is a strong community supporter and eagerly jumped on board to help with this worthwhile project. They pledged $1,000 towards this venture. The Rotary then enlisted the help of the Cadillac Rotary and Mercy Hospital. The Cadillac Rotary as well as Mercy Hospital supported the project by each donating $1,000. The Manton Rotary also asked Assistant Rotarian Governor Linda Kimbel to write a matching funds grant from Rotary International. The grant was accepted and they matched the funds given by the Manton and Cadillac Rotary’s.

On February 6, 2012, a check for $5,000 was presented to Superintendent J. Mark Parsons and High School Principal Len Morrow on behalf of Manton Rotary, Cadillac Rotary and Mercy Hospital.
